After beating Brooklands the girls only had a 10 minute break and a caramel shortbread (courtesy of Chris Simms) before facing Norbury. That’s all they needed! A strong, fast start and the first of her 5 goals came from Annabel in minutes. Milly had a near miss and then fired it straight back into goal for it to be disallowed. First quarter 4-1 to Mellor.
Another lightening goal in the second quarter came with a spectacular flick from Annabel. Lara moved forwards for her first time in mid- defence and added to the score. Characteristically, Eve provided a lovely assist to Annabel for the next goal and a further goal ended the second quarter 8-2 to Mellor. Norbury were playing better now and had more attempts on goal but Katie, Lucy and Martha were strong and Norbury only managed 2 shots on goal, both saved easily by Liv.
Norbury started strongly in the third quarter but only managed 1 further goal with 2 more great saves from Liv. Great team play from Mellor with passes to all players. Notable was the Martha to Eve to Amelie to goal combination; a lovely goal from Lucy and a nifty turn then goal from Ruby. All pushing the score to 11-3 to Mellor with no real pressure on our defence.
The fourth quarter was Mellor’s finest with a further 7 goals and fantastic team play with all girls involved. A brilliant interception from Beany in defence culminated in a flying goal from Martha. Both Alice and Lucy playing in defence got through to score. Eve unselfishly assisted time and again and an assist from Alice followed by a great finish from Ruby brought Ruby’s fifth goal and the final score to 18-3.
