Timperley are always tough opponents, but down to a squad of 10 due to sickness and with key players missing, Mellor had their work cut out more than ever this morning. The first quarter saw Mellor quick off the mark with an early shot on goal, but Timperley hit back hard with 4 goals in quick succession. An interception and break from Alice W was thwarted just outside the circle - another made it to the back of the net, but by the end of quarter 1 it was 7-1 to Timperley. In a more even second quarter Timperley still stretched their lead to make the score 10-1 at half time. The Mellor girls kept fighting hard in the third quarter scoring 3 goals - Alice W (1) and Ruby (2) - to Timperley's 4. However, in the final quarter Mellor's lack of substitutes took its toll. Timperley scored 6 more goals with Mellor replying with a single goal (Eve). In summary, the girls were beaten by a stronger team who were well organised and passed the ball well. Hats off to Timperley for a good win, but well done to the Mellor team for some great defensive play and keeping their heads high to the end.
