A sunny Sunday morning heralded the first home game of the season for the U15 Girls. It proved to be a one sided affair.
With help from more U13 players, Alice and Amelie, starting for the U15s for the first time, Mellor started the game by losing the first draw but lost little else for the rest of the game. A turnover from Miranda and a full pitch sprint from Matty gave Mellor a 1-0 lead.
Amy scored after rolling the crease and Miranda added a third with a dodge and shot after a pass from Amy.
Miranda’s reverse stick shot after a pass from Matty and then two goals in quick succession including a right-handed crease drive from Annabelle and the first quarter ended 6-0.
Amy and Annabelle both scored after the break following passes from Miranda and then Cheadle finally responded with a goal after some quick upfield passes left the Mellor defence exposed.
Harley and Annabelle restored order scoring after more prolonged Mellor possession and the half ended 10-1.
The second half started with Mellor still on the front foot and with Lucy ably assisted by Alice dealing with anything that crossed into the Mellor half.
Amy scored after a pass from Annabelle and then Katie scored a birthday goal with a neat finish.
Matty was still full of energy and scored two goals including a reverse stick flick before Harley and debut girl Amelie added one each of their own.
There was temporary concern for Amy when the Mellor straight attacker used her face rather than her stick to control a cross from the left – eye protection saving the day (other girls take note!)
Further goals were added by Annabelle (3) and Miranda and Matty and the game ended 21-1.
