An interesting start to the match when the girls
went one goal up with barely a touch of the ball. A swift 'own goal' from
one of the Timperley players set the scene for the whole match, where Timperley
were always playing catch up.
The feisty Mellor girls braved the mud sodden pitch
showing skill and commitment which ended in a well deserved
victory.
Mellor took advantage of their early lead and their
excellent team work resulted in a goal each for Emily and Miranda. Continuing
with the winning streak, Aoife nimbly added 2 further goals to the score
sheet.Timperley found it hard to break through the tight Mellor defense with
Aoife and Annabel skillfully running the opposition away from goal. Timperley,
however, would not give up until a couple of misguided Mellor checks resulted in
2 goals for Timperley just before the half time whistle.
The 2nd half saw the girls struggling to pick up
some of the ground balls due to the muddy pitch conditions. Timperley had found
some energy from somewhere and started the half as the dominant team scoring a
couple of sneaky goals. The Mellor girls rose to the occasion and fought back
with relentless pressure from Katie, Annabel and Anna. Some smooth and
streamlined passing from Sophie, Emily and Miranda, together with some clever
saves from Aimee, meant that Timperly could not get the better of the Mellor
girls. Amy made scoring goals look easy as she scored 3 goals in the 2nd half to
make the final score Timperley 7 Mellor 9.
