A sunny start for the U13s

The day dawned bright and clear for the for U13 Girls first match of the season – a pre-season against Cheadle at Home.
The team was made up of a great mix of experienced players and new talent, and got off to an excellent start. Early goals from Amelie, Katie H, Eve and Annabel combined with tight goalkeeping from Alice meant that Mellor soon established a lead. Good team play and ongoing pressure from Mellor resulted in a 5-2 lead at half time.
This set the tone for the second half. Although Cheadle played well and their no 7 (Phoebe) scored several excellent goals, our strong defence blunted their attack, and our midfielders consistently ensured that most of the action was around the Cheadle goal. Mellor steadily extended their lead and finished clear winners with a 17-7 scoreline. Equal top scorers for Mellor were Annabel and Katie H with six goals each, whilst Amelie scored three and Eve two. This was a great start to the season and a really encouraging performance from all the team – Alice, Amelie, Annabel, Eve, Katie H, Katie M, Jasmin, Lara, Leia, Lucy and Martha. We’re looking forward to the next match already!
