Having watched Heaton Mersey play Stellor a number of times last season, this was always likely to be a close game, with the hosts typically putting out a very organised and well-drilled group of players who gel very well as a team, as well has having one stand out player in Midfield. It was a close game from start to finish, with highs and lows for both team. Mersey found success in the first half through running the ball through the midfield to fairly directs attacks on goal and our defence was on some occasions caught on the back-foot. Mellor in turn moved the ball quickly through the midfield and scored both some excellent individual goals and through crisp and accurate passing. George and Jamie took most of Mellor Goals, helped by strong break-up play in midfield and our defence improved throughout the game, with a particularly strong performance from Joey Bissell. In truth Mellor seemed a little more dominant that the end score suggests, and but for perhaps a few handling errors, the score line could have been more definitive. Good to see fitness levels pretty high with the pace of the game not slacking in any way right to the finish, despite only two on the bench. Well played boys.
