Our 19th and final league game of the season ended with a hard fought victory over Brooklands/Rochdale.
Like last week we had a slow start and similarly found ourselves 2-0 down after only a few minutes. We eventually got ourselves on the scoresheet through a good Eddie finish before conceding again to go in 1-3 down at the end of the first qtr. We were well off the pace and again it needed a stern team talk to wake the boys up. Whatever was said clearly had the desired result as we then scored 7 without reply over the next 2 qtrs.
Our movement, passing and finishing was much sharper while in defence we kept their dangerous no 32 in check a lot more and when they did get a few shots on goal, Drew was in fine form and after 4 weeks looks like he's played in net for years. The goals were well spread around with most of the attack finding the net and we looked comfortable as we finished the 3rd qtr 8-3 up.
That was soon 9-3 in the 4th and the game looked won. We should have made it more but a number of wasted breaks with a poor final ball led to too many turnovers and with a few man down situations we conceded 3 late on to finish with a 9-6 win.
A season which has had its highs and lows in terms of results but the 9 Mellor and 4 Stockport players have given their all and been committed throughout as we finish with 11 wins and a draw in the league. The end of junior lacrosse for Matt (Stockport) and 5 of our players (Will, Drew, Josh, Ben T and Ben H) all of whom have played a massive part in the success of their teams over the years. Thanks to Bick for coaching this season and here's looking forward to a brief break!
Goals: Eddie, Ben T, Luke all 2, Tom, Matt and Ashley all 1
