Stellor bounce back in difficult conditions

After the Plate exit last week, the game today was against what would have been our opponents in the final. With Will out injured and also missing the speed of Matt in midfield we knew this would be a game were we would have to work hard as a team to come out on top.

The 1st qtr was even as we went 1 up before trailing 2-1 then just before the break Sam's second of the day saw us share the qtr 2-2. The wind was making things difficult and in particular some of our long range passing wasn't the smartest idea as we often found touch or out of bounds rather than a player. For once this week we were a match for size with the 2 Ben's strong in midfield and a back 3 of Josh, Joe and Jack proving hard to get through and when they did Drew produced a number of good saves.

The 2nd qtr was not the best in attack from either side and a Poynton goal saw them into a 3-2 half time lead.

In the 3rd we upped it and 2 goals from Luke and Ben T saw us take a 4-3 lead. The game was becoming scrappy and discipline was slipping on the pitch with numerous penalties for fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct. The same theme continued in the 4th qtr and with constant man downs for both sides the goals started to flow. Poynton drew level at 4-4 before Stellor sloted in 3 unanswered from Luke and 2 from Ben T to take a 7-4 lead. A further goal from Poynton saw the game end in a 7-5 victory.

A good bounce back by the boys today on a day when conditions and discipline didn't help either side but in the end we deserved the victory.

Goals: Ben T (3), Sam and Luke (2 each)
