An improved performance this week against one of the better teams at this level. Defensively we were much more organised and for the most part coped well with what Sheffield had in attack. Our passing in the final third was much better this week but we struggled to break down their defence and had to work hard for our opportunities.
There was never more than a goal in the game as we traded goals throughout 1-2 (q1), 3-2 (q2) and 4-3 (q3). The last qtr saw them score 2 quick goals to regain the lead before a period of pressure saw us equalise with under 2 mins to go. However, another lost face led to us defending to gain a draw but with about 15 secs left they manage to get a roll and a shot on target which led to a 6-5 victory for them.
As frustrating as it was to lose it at the end, the overall performance was much better this week. Without their stand out number 17, who dominated face throughout and scored many of their goals through powerful shots, it was a game we would have won. Also if we had not been careless in giving away posession on numerous occasions, through poor transition, and had also been more accurate with a number of shooting opportunities, it was a game we could and should have won.
We'll need to step it up a couple of notches more next week in the cup and build on the positives from today's display.
Goals: Drew (2), Matt, Ben T and Luke 1 each.
