The boys were fast out of the blocks today with good handling and strong defending laying the foundation as we raced into a 4-0 qtr lead. With Luke deputising in goal the expected long range shooting didn't materialise and we looked in control. The face off's this week were more 50:50 and we looked sharp in posession scoring a number of well worked team goals with Drew at the centre of everything but supported well by all the attack and middies. Q2 was more of the same with another dominant performance seeing us take a 10-3 half time lead and looking surprisingly comfortable.
The second half was not as good - a bit of complacency, some slopiness and also the Mersey team started to play more like we expected. We gave away too much posession through careless passes and if it were not for some good saves from Luke we could have thrown the game away. As it was we lost the second half 5-3 to finish 13-8 winners. A good result against a good team and one which showed we are moving in the right direction as the players start to gel. Another likely close game next week so hopefully we can cut out the slopiness and build on the first half display today.
Goals: Drew (5), Jack (2), Matthew (2), Eddie (2), Ben T and Sam (1 each)
