A cold but successful start to 2018 for Mellor. For the first time in a few months Mellor had the full squad (of 12!) available for the game. Both Josh Pink and Will Macdonald were back from injury and the shape of the team felt much better. WMG were organised at the back but they didn’t have much power up front and they found it increasingly difficult to deal with Mellor’s speedy midfield. The first quarter ended 0-3 to Mellor and by halftime it was 1-5. Mellor took the collective foot off the pedal in the third quarter which only yielded two goals but then in the final quarter they moved up a gear with a particularly energetic performance from Josh Pink who scored some wonderful goals and also did a lot of hard work laying the ball off for other team mates. Drew Bickerton and Will Tadman had really industrious games and both feel like vital parts of the engine of this team. The defence was organised and quick to spot danger and it was only match rustiness that stopped Will from keeping a clean sheet. When the team play as a team the goals come fast and from lots of different areas. This meant that Ben Mochan shone in the second half getting 3 goals and unselfishly assisting another for Drew. So, a good start and let’s hope they can maintain this momentum for the cup game later this month.
Goals – Drew 3, Josh Pink 4, Josh Poke 4, Ben Mochan 3
Assists – Dan Jones 3, Pink 3, Poke 2, Ben Mochan 1, Nick Hughes 1
Man of the match – Josh Pink
