Mellor had their noses in front right from the start and in the end they did just enough to win this game. Timperley were slightly understrength so the game was an 8 aside which did favour Mellor’s fast midfielders. For the most part Mellor played as a team and scored some good goals. They would have racked up more had it not been for a great goalkeeping display from the Timperley keeper.
This was the first time for a month that Mellor had a full squad and it was good to see the team shape looking so much better with the boys playing in their best positions. Mellor led from the start and were 1-3 up at the end of the first quarter. Timperley had a very spirited response in the second quarter and started to pull together their passing game. At halftime it was 4-5 to Mellor. In the third quarter Mellor were pinned back for quite a while but still managed to score on the break and were leading 6-8 as they went into the fourth quarter. By this stage Timperley’s legs were tiring and Mellor scored some clever goals to open up a gap which Timperley, despite their best efforts, just couldn’t close. Mellor walkws out worthy winners 11 - 15
In the end it was a well fought game between two very equal teams. When they’re both at full strength it will be an even better contest.
