MC Lax beat Wilmslow and head for the semis

It was great to be playing at Mellor Sports club after a long absence -the pitch was in great conditon, the rain had stopped, the sun was shining and the hotdogs were on the stove in the clubhouse.

MC LAX were at full strength and the midis soon took control of the game. The defence was solid, Brandon was having an easy time in goal and the forwards were queuing up to score.

On the touchline the parents were enjoying their teas, coffees and hot chocolate.

Elliot opened the scoring and so it went on. Lots of passing, a few missed ground balls but, generally, some nice lacrosse being played by all.

The sun continued to shine and the parents removed the odd hat, scarf and gloves as they enjoyed the warmth – and the lacrosse of course.

The first quarter ended 6-1 to MC LAX.

The second quarter continued at the same pace with teas and coffees moving beautifully across the main field with very little being dropped – unlike some of the catching on the pitch. However, MC LAX continued to score and the defence held firm.

Half-time came with the score at 10-1 and with the arrival of the first bacon rolls on the pitch the parents became quite animated – this was exciting stuff.

It’s hard to describe the frenzy that took place over the next 15 minutes ….. as parents from both matches (U12s and U14s) joined the melee in the clubhouse for the crispiest bacon. It’s worth mentioning the outstanding performance from Isaac’s mum (long fork), George’s mum (short teapot) and Louis’s mum who defended the hotdogs from hungry grown-ups. Although the rules of lacrosse can sometimes seem complicated to follow, this one is quite clear (i.e. hotdogs are for players only).

The third quarter was relatively more even, with Wilmslow doubling its score. As MC LAX had 50% more players in its squad, this was no mean feat and the Wilmslow players should be applauded for the way they continued to battle. The third quarter ended 15 – 1.

The fourth quarter continued at the same pace and the game finished 20-2. Dan scored the last goal.

A relatively easy victory, with lots of good goals by lots of players.

The players from both teams then consumed nearly 50 hotdogs between them - the majority by MC LAX. An excellent all-round performance and Borat and the parents should be justifiably proud.

The next Cup game will be very different.
