Whereas last week MC Lax faced a large and experienced Poynton squad, this week we were up against a young Ashton side which was struggling for numbers.
The result was never in doubt as the first quarter finished 7.0 and the first half 10:1.
So, a very different game to last week but at least it gave the players the chance to work on their attacking drills. And after lots of shouting and threats from Borat and Dan, the boys stopped running through the Ashton defence to score solo goals, and began passing, moving and cutting to score some quality-lacrosse goals. The fact that Jonathon netted five times is a clear indication that the team occasionally listens to its coaches.
Matt played goalie in the first half and Louis took over at half time. Ashton attacks were limited but the 2-3 shots faced by each goalie were well-saved.
Will played with Ashton in the first half and Cameron took over the red shirt in the second half, but even with their experience and talent they couldn’t stop the MC attacks. Cameron’s one starring moment, and much to Borat’s disbelief, was when he evaded four MC midis (at once) on the wing. However, they will have been minded of the last time Cameron played for the opposition and a Mellor tackle broke his collar-bone in two place !
So, the third quarter ended 12:1 and the final score was 17:1
Seven different MC players scored goals, including one each from the long-poles of Isaac and Tom.
Although MC were by far the stronger team, credit should be given to the young Ashton players who turn up, train and play each week knowing that they will likely be facing bigger and more experienced squads. They deserve our respect.
Goals from Elliot, Isaac, Joe (4), Jonathan (5), Josh (2), Miles (3)and Tom
Nine matches so far this season ……2 losses and 7 wins.
Cheadle Hulme/Norbury next week - which will be tougher opposition. However, as has been proven ….. if the team listens to the coaches they are capable of beating anyone in this league.
