Current U16 defender, Oliver Rogerson gives his view of the game in a beautifully animated match report with countless animal references.
After a big night out in Marple bridge the Mellor under 16 boys had to keep it safe and legal in order to play well the following morning against Timperly B.
Mellor arrived not knowing what to expect however, with Daniel’s comforting words and hugs we
were ready for a good game. Things turned desperate as Matt Smallman was appointed referee for the game, Matt officiated the game with real authority. Face-off was upon us and with Josh Benson' the recently appointed long pole on one wing, and lacrosse veteran Oli Rogerson on the other wing there was a slim chance of losing. Sure enough this deadly combination worked and within minutes of the first quarter Rory Heydon bagged 2 quick goals one after another leaving the Timperly defence sweating like a diabetic in a sweet shop. Giving defence no time to reform, Ben Smallman scored 1 to make it 3-0 giving us a comfortable lead. this meant Mellor under 16's could release Oli Rogerson on a run finishing up with of course a goal sending us to 4-0 and before we knew it, Jay Learner like a bull in a china shop however as graceful as a swan managed to snatch two goals. Before the quarter whistle blew Will Moore made a few dodges putting him in front of the face of goal making the final score of the first quarter 7-0. Which left Oli Robinson little to do and the defence remained strong.
Rory Heydon on fire putting away another two very quick goals leaving the defence for dead and adding to the score board. At face off we decided to get newly recruited Terry Tenmen (Connor) on the wing as he has shown great passion and skill in the game, this would secure us a victory at the face and proved right as well on a quick counter Cameron major who is a gentle as a lamb elegantly placed the ball in the back of the net. Oli robinson our rock at the back was pulling saves out the bag doing everything in his power to keep a clean sheet' of course with help from the defence where Louis font who knows no limits began to use his body and make critical checks and left the attack feeling scared as to what else he can bring to the game, Terrence was keen on the ground balls and ran the ball up field whenever possible, he also stood strong as an ox on one-on -ones never not coming out with the ball. Josh Benson who had adapted well to his long pole, was using his skills and knowledge in the defensive position. He surprised us all and had a very strong performance at both winning the ball and running with the ball. Unfortunately one quick move by Timperly left Oli robinson helpless and they scored a lucky goal, Jay learner then carried the team to score another goal to bring back the dignity of the Mellor boys, Before we knew it, George Brady was on a mission to make his way on to the score sheet and in doing so he showed his blossoming talent and placed the ball in the back of the net, seconds before the half time whistle blew, Half time score 11-1.
In the foggy distance above the arising sun an angel seemed to fall from the sky in his full kit, we named him Matthew Watson and asked him to par take in the 3rd quarter. As we got the 3rd quarter underway Charlie Tozer gracefully ran through the Timperley defence from behind goal like a gazelle escaping the hungry lions across the vast savannah grassland and put the ball in the back of the net. Matthew Watson was feeding passes and creating chances for other sto take however this quarter consisted of no more goals.
Final quarter and as we had been giving a player to Timperly for each quarter, it was now Cam Major's turn to take that role, he was keen to add to Timperly's score and in doing so, Jay collided into Cameron who is never shy of taking a big hit. Unfortunately, this time it resulted in Cam's collar bone breaking in two places however, every cloud has its silver lining Cameron later on informed us he was “high on gas and air." Meanwhile, Oli Rogerson then went on to score a screamer which made the headlines as he leapt like a salmon to finish a well-placed shot, josh benson who regained his short stick went on to prove the point he is just as good with both going on to score our final goal which completed the game 14-1.
