A comfortable Mellor win

Mellor's first home game of the season saw them up against another physically strong side, the return of Oliver Rogerson, Jay Learner and Charlie Tozer gave the Mellor boys confidence coming into the fixture. The attack were missing George Brady and his off ball movement was going to be missed. Charlie Tozer was then declared unable to play on Saturday morning so Josh Benson would be leading the attacking line as the only straight attackman

The game began with Mellor winning the face off and holding the ball In the opponents half, and some patient play led to Jay Learner opening the scoring. Mellor were regularly retaining possession from the face off, but were losing possession due to unforced errors. however at the back Mellor were at full strength, Oliver Rogerson and Louis Font were able to set up the slides in good time making life difficult for the Sheffield dodgers. First Quarter score 3-1 to Mellor

The Mellor boys looked strong at the face-off again with Will Moore and Rory Heydon battling hard to support Learner. Mellor struggled to link up in attack with the ball rarely moving behind the goal. Never the less, when it did Josh Benson found himself being played by his man very far out, he managed a nice drive on to his weaker side and buried the ball. Sheffield often struggled to set up slide packages making life easier for the Mellor attack. Unforced errors again became the problem for the Mellor boys, but luckily for them Robinson was in fine form pulling off some excellent saves. Rogerson was also in great form, inspired by his girlfriend stood with the spectators, he was able to pull off numerous takeaway checks and allow the Boys to attack on the break. Louis Font was also busy, he stood out for his brilliant awareness and positive sliding. The strength in defence allowed Mellor to score 2 more fast paced goals with one being a brilliant fast ball movement play finished off by Heydon. 5-1 at half time to Mellor

Mellor began to tire in the 3rd quarter and seemed to struggle to keep possession, with no substitutes the boys had to rotate positions fairly often. Due to the lack of substitutes, the Mellor attack was looking static and the Yorkshire team took advantage off this, playing some high pressure defence and causing turnovers. This lead to Sheffield's second goal of the game. Mellor responded with 2 quick fire, solo goals from Heydon and Learner. The physicality of the game then turned up a notch and Mellor became unorganised, a time out allowed them to relax their play and score a nice team goal from a man up situation. 8-2 at quarter time

Sheffield came out fighting in the last quarter and certainly weren't going to step down. They enjoyed some good spells of possession and the Mellor defence did begin to tire, thankfully the form of Robinson limited the Sheffield boys to only 2 more goals. Some good dodging in the Mellor attack led to 2 more goals. Final score 10-4
