Well organised Poynton put the boys through a strong and testing game

On a dry but breezy day Mellor were looking for six straight wins out of six. Poynton only had 10 players so we gave them 2 of ours to even the teams up. Well done to the volunteers for playing for the opposition.
The game started very evenly for the first 2 minutes. Ned made a good save before Mellor broke away. Jack Royle opened the scoring after an assist by Josh. Poynton then equalised through their best player,Zander wearing number 22. After these 2 minutes the first quarter was all Mellor with further goals from Josh,Jamie and 3 from George. The quarter ended 7-1
The second quarter started slowly before a goal from Jake which resulted in him doing a celebratory dance that Strictly would have been proud of!
Oli then assisted Jamie to score Mellor’s 9th goal before Poynton pulled one back via their number 22 again after a great solo run. Noah then scored to send Mellor into double figures. George scored a couple more to bring his tally to 5. At the end of the 2nd quarter it was 12-2 to Mellor.
Some positional changes at half time saw no goals from Mellor in Q3 but an interesting talking point on the sidelines was that Jack Latham did score his first goal of the season from a tight angle.....great goal even if he was playing for the opposition ! End of the 3rd quarter 12-3 to Mellor.
With bonfire night almost upon us the fireworks were already flying from the coaches team talk going into the final quarter after playing 15 minutes without a goal. The last quarter saw Josh score his 2nd after an assist from Noah. Poynton scored their 4th goal before Jack Royle ended the game how he started it by scoring his 2nd. There was some good defending and great saves by Ned in this game. Poynton continued to create chances but perhaps ran out of steam but, in their Number 22 and 8, had 2 outstanding players who asked questions of us from the first to last whistle.
This was a good game before next week's Cup match at Norbury who, like Poynton, will give us a real run for our money

Scorers..... George Shonfeld 5, Jamie Mochan 3, Jack Royle 2, Josh Myers 2, Noah Barlow 1, Jake Fell 1.... and (Jack Latham 1)
