Both teams created a sloppy start and despite good early possession Mellor squandered some good opportunities through poor handling.
It became clear that once the boys settled into their normal rhythm the game was there for the taking. A dogged first quarter saw a 2-0 lead established.
Momentum came early in the second quarter as Mellor improved their handling and team play...obviously some astute words from Rick and Andy at the break!
Mellor started to ease ahead and scored some wonderfully created goals formed from some very solid play from the defence and some excellent saves from Ned whenever there was a slip in concentration
Mellor's superior skills and ability ensured a safe 6-0 half time lead.
More of the same determined the outcome of the third quarter as Mellor took a strangle hold on the game through dominating Cheadle Hulme/Wacs in every aspect of the game despite them having two sanctioned over aged players.
A comfortable 12-1 third quarter lead gave the coaches a welcomed opportunity to fully rotate the squad giving some of the less experienced players some valuable game time. It was very encouraging to see how well the entire team played as units and individuals with some great moves and unselfish play. Final score 13-1.
