By rights we shouldn't really expect any success from this team. Its a young squad of 8 that's supported by some of our U12s - they have to box above their weight every week, often against merged teams but the reason they do so well is down to 1 thing - teamwork.
Today was no exception in atrocious conditions. An early goal conceded led to a period of dominance which saw our U12s, Josh, George and Jamie, all net to take us in at Q1 with a 3 - 1 lead.
Joe Kynaston was winning everything at face off and despite another goal conceded we reached half time with an 8 - 2 lead. Sam, Tom, Eddie and Ollie were all linking up well and their goalkeeper, no doubt the best in his age group, made many good saves to keep the tie alive.
Our defence of Will, Alex and Joey kept Ned protected and frequently turned the ball over for us to attack. A tough day for goalkeepers with visibility bad but Ned continued with some excellent distribution. Every time we had the ball we looked capable of scoring with Sam and George in control of the midfield for long spells in the game.
Our Opposition's heads were down in the 3rd quarter as we pulled away for a 12 - 3 lead. Their key players were having to do too much of the work and their keeper, no matter how strong, was left exposed time and time again as we broke to goal. The final quarter was played out in blizzard like conditions until the whistle went at 15 - 5.
So it may only be the Plate Final but its a final nonetheless and this group of boys deserve their time in Rochdale. Whatever the result this is one of the most committed group we've had in Junior Lacrosse and they should be applauded. No whingers, no moaners so when it gets tough they stick together - there's many teams, both Junior and Senior, that would benefit from watching how these boys play the game.
For what its worth the goals came from across the team today - Jamie (4), Josh ( 2), George (3), Sam (2), Tom (4)
Todays Man Of The Match - Joe Kynaston - magnificent in his face off role and continually won the ball for us to play forward
