An 8 a side game on astro was never going to end well! The main aim today was to play a competitive match but we also wanted to win.

With 16 boys in total, and only 7 for Timperley, it meant we needed to even the numbers up which 4 of our boys did during periods of the game. For the Mellor team the game was one of 2 halves really, decent in periods in the first half but never looking overly comfortable on the large astro pitch, we led 5-2 at half time.

The turning point on the day was the 3rd qtr where George switched and helped Timperley boss the midfield and this coincided with Joe unfortunately picking up an injury leaving a key defender immobile and so playing up in attack – not that he saw any of the ball in that qtr! Losing it 4-0 we never recovered and the 4th qtr was just sloppy leading to an eventual 8-6 loss.

It is testament to the standards the boys have set this season that the coaches were fully expecting our team of 9, including 4 u12s, to have won today. It wasn’t to be and we move on to the important games over the next few weeks where match practice like today will hopefully see us win those games, especially when the missing pieces of the jigsaw return.

I think we will skip MOM today but full credit to the boys for their efforts – for both teams!
