Boys back to winning ways after last weekend's break

After the usual match morning worries of - Would the Myers have defrosted the rolls in time? Where has all this mist come from? and then realising we had run out of pitch line marking paint at 8am – it was a relief when the game finally faced off.
With no training this week, and nearly 3 weeks since the boys had all played together, we could have been excused for being rusty. However, an early Sam pick for George, who neatly slotted home, was swiftly followed by a George jinking run and finish which showed that the boys were relishing playing again. The confidence in the team was flowing today – Tom taking on his defenders scored the next 2 before Josh himself then scored 2, finishing off some lovely flowing moves. Another great move led to Jamie completing the scoring in the 1st qtr as we led 7-0.
WACS started to exert some pressure on our defence in the 2nd qtr but Joe, Alex and Wlll were able to deal with most of their attacks leaving Ned with only a couple of shots to save. Further goals followed and whilst WACS found the net, moments after going close, we ended the half 12-1 up.
The 3rd and 4th qtrs saw a flurry of further goals which was down to some clinical finishing and great pass and moving which wouldn’t have looked out of place in the afternoon men’s games. Joe also got in on the scoring act today and seemed to relish his freedom to push forward. WACS were competitive throughout and the 23-1 final scoreline certainly didn’t reflect the effort that they put in as they chased every ground ball and were not letting our runners have an easy time of it.
Whilst George stole the headlines in terms of goals from midfield today, the defensive efforts from Joey, Eddie and Sam and their many unselfish assists led to a great all round team performance which we just need to ensure we repeat in future weeks! We showed today that if we have our fair share of possession, and win enough midfield battles, that we have the teamwork and quality in enough players to beat any team at this level on our day.
MOM: Not just for his goals but also for his determination in defence goes to George
Goals – George (8), Tom (5), Jamie (4), Sam (2), Josh (2), Eddie and Joe
