With the weather turning distinctly autumnal, Mellor headed to Manchester WACS in Didsbury. There was, however, no evidence of ‘Cold Feet’ from the boys today with an impressive all round performance. WACS never really found their attacking stride in this game although they did provide resistance in defence, forcing Mellor to earn their goals. In all, a great team display from Mellor with fast, accurate passing in attack backed up with solid defending and Ned’s goal keeping, to ensure WACS never got a look in.
In the first quarter Mellor opened the score sheet quickly with goals from Josh and Joey before WACS pulled one back. By the quarter whistle Mellor netted three more courtesy of Sam, Tom and Jamie.
It was more of the same in the second. Jamie, Tom, George, Oli and Joey all scored with Oli’s 360 spin being particularly memorable. WACS managed to sneak one more this quarter but after that Mellor’s defence was too tight.
The third and fourth quarters were open season for Mellor with a series of goals which were as steady as the Manchester rain. By now WACS were getting frustrated and there were a number of sendings off. Sam, Jamie, Joey, Josh and Tom all netted at least once.
It was pleasing to see the joined up play from Mellor today with great feeds from Alex especially and Joe and Will strong as usual in defence. George was everywhere and assisted lots of goals. If Mellor can play like this against other teams it should be an entertaining season.
