Against an inexperienced Liverpool side we expected to win comfortably and so even with a late drop out meaning we travelled with 9 players it was going to be a walk over? So the inevitable happened, as we had our San Marino moment, with the defence still in neutral gear Liverpool scored in the 1st minute to take a 1-0 lead. That was a mini wake up as we went down the other end for Tom to score the first of his 6 on the day. However, the rest of the first quarter was sloppy, careless and slow - and so we ended with a 3-1 lead.
A few stern words at the break saw a much improved display for the rest of the match. Quicker passing and more movement led to an increasing goal tally as we kept Liverpool penned in their own half for much of the rest of the game. Despite playing on a pitch that even the seniors would have complained was too big, the 8 outfield players dominated the play giving the recovering Will an easy day of rest in goal.
Games such as this are difficult to assess as expectations are high, yes there were a few groans from bad passages of play but we also played some instinctive lacrosse leading to some great goals. With 2 very tough tests to come, it was great that all the attackers found the net and if we can get over our bad habit, which is really becoming our achilles heal, of a slow ponderous start we may be able to run the next 2 opponents closer than recent current form suggests we will do.
Goals: Tom (6), Drew (5), Ben T (4), Sam (3), Ben H (3), Eddie (2)
