Our U14 boys had their first outing on Saturday against last year’s Flags finalists Wilmslow in a pre-season friendly. With most of last year’s Wilmslow U12 team moving up to U14 on paper this was a good test for both teams.
Mellor started well and soon found their stride taking a comfortable 6-1 lead after the first quarter. This was pretty much the story for the rest of the game with Mellor looking comfortable winning every quarter of the game. Nick Hughes made some good runs from defence and came close to getting on the score sheet but top honours go to to Ben Mochan who topped the score sheet with 9 goals backed up by a confident midfield feeding our attackers throughout the match. The final score of 21-3 gave a fair impression of the game and the whole teams looks to have matured under the leadership of new coach Will Sugden. With the season starting proper this coming Saturday the real tests are ahead with a tough first league game away to old foe Timperley.
