Match report by Chris Thomas

It was an early start for Mellor U14’s as they headed east on a bright winters morning, crossing the snowy Pennines heading to Sheffield Steelers lacrosse club.
Arriving at the recently refurbished facility run by Sheffield Hallam University we found a hard and frosty pitch bathed in morning sunshine.
After the initial threat of a postponement due to the conditions and with the sun making a ground softer by the minute the game commenced.

Immediatly Mellor found themselves on the back foot with the Sheffield midfield controlling possession and working the ball around the zone defence.
An early goal from long range for Sheffield was blanked out by Daniel Jones who scored after some good work from the assist Joe Hussey.
Sheffield continued to control possession and the pace of the game with the main threat coming from their midfield who had an excellent game.
Three more goals for Sheffield followed before Ben Mochan scored with the final play of the quarter after a quick break from Mellor and a fine assist from Josh Simpson Pink.
Sheffield 4 Mellor 2

Quarter two was similar with Sheffield continuing to press scoring another four goals but this could have been more but for some fine work from Dan Pawsey in the Mellor goal.
Mellor did score with Daniel Jones finishing a fine solo effort with a good strong shot.
Sheffield 8 Mellor 3

Quarter three was a much closer affair with Mellor changing their approach, pressing the opposition with some tight marking which resulted in the home team making errors.
This period finished with a single goal to Sheffield
Sheffield 9 Mellor 3

The final quarter saw Mellor continuing to apply pressure but Sheffield soaked this up. An early score from Sheffield was followed by a the final goal of the morning for Mellor with Alex Hewetson collecting an assist pass from Matti Thomas from behind the goal to score low to the right.
