Despite the torrential downpour from start to finish the rain didn't seem to hamper another strong performance from Mellor's U14 boys. On paper they were pitched up against a strong Poynton team with some experienced Metro's players.

The game began with 3 quick goals from Mellor which set the tone for the rest of the game. The early goals came from Josh S Pink , Joe Hussey and Elliott Bickerton putting together some quick passing to get through the well organised Poynton defence. Further goals from Matthew Watson and Daniel Jones resulted in an 8-2 Mellor lead at Half time.

At the start of the second half Poynton came out strong and during the 3rd quarter managed to hold off the Mellor attack with each team ending the quarter with a goal a piece. This couldn't be said for the final quarter as Mellor showed their dominance scoring a further 8 goals to Poynton's one in reply. Daniel Pawsey put in another great performance in goal making over 10 saves and grows in confidence with every game and could be heard marshalling his defence and letting them know what's expected.

Probably one of the best defensive performances of the season with the boys very vocal when under attack. With the first round of the cup only a few weeks away the boys are looking good to try and repeat last years success.
