With 3 wins out of 3 so far this season the boys have had an impressive start. This however, was always going to be possibly the toughest game of the season playing against a very good Timperley side.
The team was now back to full strength with Dan Pawsey back in the goal. Dan the previous week had gone to Center Parcs for a well earned rest and obviously this worked as he was our man of the match making 14 saves ! His increased confidence is showing every game now and Timperley's american coach could not believe it was only his 3rd game in goal.
With Alex and Pinky winning most of the face-offs we had a good foundation for the game. Isaac and Pokey also greatly impressed the Coach with the first 2 'take-outs' of the season , something he has been urging all the players to do ! Like Dan P , this was probably Isaac's best game in a Mellor shirt. The entire midfield worked tirelessly and scored some great goals. With Joe and Matthew now feeding the ball well from behind the goal , we ran the Timperley midfield into the ground . Dan J was today's top scorer with 6 goals , mostly from an unusual role of attack. Elliot as ever led the team like the captain he is. This was a great team effort though , and the likes of Ben, Nick , Alex and particulary the 'new' lads - Rory, Matty and Martin deserve a lot of credit for working like mad for the team ! No team can do well continuously with just a couple of 'superstars' .
Overall , an exciting game and, if you're going to lose a game this was the way to do it with the lads working for each other all the way to the final whistle. This was the first league defeat since December 2011 for a lot of the lads and they all took it well and with great maturity.
The good news is also that in the coach's opinion , Timperley are a one and a half (!) man team and definitely beatable in the future with a bit of 'tweaking' here and there !
Next week is one of the season's 'glamour' ties with Ashton away and with the same team spirit and effort we will hopefully get another win.
See you all Wednesday night .
