8-8!! a drawn game...a collectors item of a result. Draws are scarce in Lacrosse. Sadly we leave Cheadle feeling frustrated.
A perfect morning, a great pitch, it was all there for us to really continue the form we'd shown in the last two matches, however we had other ideas and Cheadle had other ideas as well.
Sometimes in games we've been slow to start, and with Cheadle opening the scoring it felt as if this was one of those games, but the two teams just couldn't be separated. At no point in the match did a team open up the score line by more than one goal.
We can categorically say that we are a better team than Cheadle, but if we don't do the basics well then the opposition's morale will lift. The coaching team, sounding like broken records, continually instructed for ground balls to be won, to move the ball to space, but the players simply did not execute. Cheadle scrapped and fought and we were drawn to their level. At times it was like an u8's match.
Much of what we saw today was mind set, perhaps some thinking we'd won the match before they'd even arrived. Or perhaps thinking we'll start to dominate the game soon, but soon never happened.
We can look back and say, well we didn't lose the game. We can also look back on it and say we can play much better than we did.
Today's game needed players to step up, they didn't. So back to the subheading, disappointing. We have now finished all our league matches, so the next time the u12s play, will be for the pinnacle of the season. On today's showing, there's a lot of players who need to self-reflect on this match and ensure they bring their A+ game to every training session, otherwise they'll be watching the cup final as opposed to playing in it.
