A win is a win, isn't that what they say?! erm...not quite, A win is a win, but...today was a wake-up, a jolt, a valuable lesson, that none of these boys can think for one minute they've completed Lacrosse. Hardwork, discipline, sleeves rolled up and attitude will bring this team success. We play the same opposition in 3 weeks time, in the semi-final of the Cup, today we did exactly what we needed to do, win and show them that we are a serious threat.
Despite the 5 goal difference at the end of the match, this game provided 4 tight quarters. 2-1 after the 1st, 2-4 at half-time, 2-6 after the 3rd and just one goal coming in the 4th.
In previous matches we've been on a learning curve on dealing with that one player in the opposition, who could just run through us and score. Well, we might not have spotted number 37 at the beginning of the match, but by the end of the game, Cheadle Hulme's best player had been dumped on his backside (legally) more than any other player on the pitch...demonstrating that the boys are progressing and grasping the importance of doing the physical stuff!
Cheadle Hulme had a lot of the possession in this match, and yet only scored twice! Shape, formation and patience for the 'D' winning the day. Again it's something that doesn't just happen, it takes practice and hard work, both at training and during the games.
The boys are set homework after today's game, to watch Lacrosse on Youtube, not just the fancy goals and unboxing of the latest boots! but full games of Field Lacrosse. Also, to go to the senior games at the club on a Saturday afternoon, not to play football in the cage, but to watch the Lacrosse, absorb it, learn it. They will improve further and quicker if they understand the game they play.
