First thing this morning, when checking the forecast, this game was in the balance. Turns out Timperley isn't Kansas and Storm Darragh didn't mean we ended up in Oz (*shout out to all the fans of Wicked the musical!). The only allowance was switching surface to Astroturf. That proved to be a challenge some of the team have not yet faced but one handled better than the home team.
The first half was a 'whirl-wind' of goals, 10 goals shared, the score line 4-6. Henry got Mellor off to a great start with a neatly taken goal. We even managed to score a second soon after with Arthur A doubling the lead, but Timperley had one player who was clearly there 'go to' and he was able to keep them in the match throughout the match not just the first quarter.
In contrast the 2nd quarter saw just the one goal scored, right at the end, Riley 'breezed' past a few players and scored a goal all of his making. The pipe did bare the brunt of 2 or 3 of our efforts as well.
Into the 3rd quarter and the game opened up again, but despite Timperley never really being 'blown' out of sight, a 7-12 score line at the end of it did feel like Mellor had finally broken the back of the match. In this quarter Dima got his scoring boots on and rattled in 5 of the goals scored by the away team.
A close 4th quarter did seem to 'breeze' by again, goals being scored at both ends of the pitch, but in the end Mellor secured a winning margin of 7 goals, 9-16 the final score.
A notable thanks to Arthur A, Tom M and Harry H who were 'drafted' in last minute to help bolster our squad size.
Also to our wonderful parents who must have been cursing the decision for the match to go ahead!
