We assembled at Brooklands, with Finlay and Jack taking turns between the posts, and a new tactic of one of our newer / younger players playing a crease (goal-hanging to anyone unfamiliar with Lax terminology) role each quarter.
The game started at 10.00, but the team didn't…. the first few minutes were a shambles ; poor passing, catching, ground ball and team work, prompting an early time out call from the coach after just five minutes.
Improvement was demanded, and it came, but very slowly, one nil to Mellor at quarter time and 6-2 to Mellor at half time.
The improvement continued through the third quarter and we eventually ran out 14-3 winners.
Credit to Brookdale, who fought right to the end, and although this was an average performance from Mellor, our effort was never in question, and the highlight being that we got seven different boys names on the score sheet ;
