Our U12s pre season started well with us having 18 players on the books. However for a variety of reasons we have actually been left a couple short - Stockport kindly agreed to let us field 3 of our younger U14s for this fixture and we moved up 3 of our U10 players in the week for their first run out.
Thankfully players, officials, spectators and anyone else passing through passed the temperature check and the game kicked off in it’s new non facing format.
Having heard that Stockport had overpowered Cheadle Hulme last weekend we had no expectations about winning this game. Coach Sim had his players working in groups of 3 and moved them around the pitch to experience playing in different positions.
Fred Kynaston enjoys watching the new crop of U12s start their lacrosse journey and turned up to watch. He kindly volunteered to take a note of the scores & scorers which were as follows:
Quarter 1: 3 – 2
Half time: 8 – 5
Quarter 3: 10 – 5
Full time: Mellor 14 – 9
It was a great team performance, they worked really well together. The boys passed the ball nicely and fought hard for ground balls. A real confidence boosting game.
Mellor’s scorers were as follows:
Ol 4, Noah 3, Ed F unshackled from defence 3, Dyl 1, Seb 1, Josh 1. The 2nd biggest cheer of the day went to 9yr old Joseph who scored on his debut. Fred didn’t mark down assists so I’ll have a word with him before the next game.
The biggest cheer of the day went to the ref when he blew for full time, it was pouring down, it was freezing on the sideline and due to Covid restrictions there were no refreshments to warm us up after the game!!
A great start to the season for our U12s & thanks to Stockport for being so sporting.
