Six months after it was due to be played - but better late than never - the boys congregated at the club for their U12s semi vs Timperley, their first game since beating Stockport way back in March. These are strange times, and while it was great to be playing, rules under Covid meant no face-offs - a disadvantage for Mellor given how dominant Miles was last season particularly against Timp. It also meant no bacon butties !

No matter, although Timp started with the ball in Q1 they got immediately dispossessed by the Mellor defence, sharp passing upfield as Charlie fed Miles then on to Cam to score and we were one up in the first minute. Timp restarted but again were dispossessed for Cam to score a cracking solo effort. Back to Timp again for the restart but no way through again, as Mellor adapted to the new rules brilliantly, winning back the ball again and finding Seb for his first. This pattern was starting to repeat, this time Cam through for a solo goal and Mellor were four up. Restart again with Timp and this time they shoot from long range to score. First restart to Mellor and we make the most of it as great pass by Dyl to Cam finishes a lovely lacrosse move. Timp get another back before Mellor score another three in the quarter, Seb and Cam twice, including a beaut from a long pass by Charlie and it was 8 - 2 after Q1.

After a frenetic first quarter the game as expected slowed a little in Q2. Mellor started this time and Charlie found the net for his first. Nice lay off from Josh to Cam to score, then king of the assists Miles sets up Leo before getting on the scoresheet himself. Timp pull one back in the quarter but they’re way behind the game by now and just not making enough of possession from their free clears, unable to get through the Mellor defence and getting frustrated. 12 - 3 to Mellor at the half time break.

Into Q3 and Mellor unfortunately lose one of their best, Charlie, to injury. However this doesn’t interrupt their dominance as Cam bags two more and Miles scores from long range, with only one back from Timp and its 15 - 4 going into the last 15 mins. Great save from Noah as he heads one over his own bar to keep out the Timp attack also!

Last quarter and game is done, feels like the boys - who had put a good shift in - are going through the motions, and the parents attentions are distracted by the vast array of dogs on show, I mean, who wouldn’t want one ?! Still, Timp get one back as two in the bin for Mellor, and then score again before we turn back on and score another five - three to Cam, an absolute classic from Miles after picking up in his own half, and a nice finish from Leo. Final score 20 - 6 and onto the final, whenever that will be, as the other semi has been postponed - but on the upside gives the physios chance to work on Charlie !. Great team performance with some fantastic passes and good shooting, with a special mention to Cam who bagged 12 goals in the game.
