Mellor skill overcomes physical opponents.

Having played some tough opposition so far this season, physicality was turned up a notch by a robust Stockport side.

Mellor were without midfield maestro Miles, so face offs were passed to Henry and Seb B, both of whom did a fantastic job in the middle. The match started poorly for Mellor with a pass back unfortunately resulting in an own goal. However, the boys reacted well and quickly got into their stride with a solo from Charlie, then Charlie again following a great pass from Cam. Dyl scores from a solo run and then Henry burst through, to make it 4 - 1. Stockport were getting frustrated but pulled two back in quick succession. Unfortunately the slashes were starting to rein in and Cam got a nasty one on the arm, so that was one of Mellor’s most prolific scorers out of the game.

Into the second quarter and Stockport scored again to make it 4 all. The penalties were mounting and Stockport were playing long periods with only 9 on the pitch. Charlie took advantage with three solo goals and Seb got one, with one back from Stockport to make it 8 - 5 to Mellor at half time.

The second half continued as the first had finished, with numerous infringements making for a scrappy game. Mellor kept their cool however and with Henry and Charlie running midfield, Ollie very strong at the back with driving runs out of defence, and Seb O chipping in with goals, Mellor had a good third quarter. Stockport got three but Mellor scored five - two from Charlie and Seb, and one from Josh, so 13 - 8 with a quarter to go.

Last quarter was even at 2 all, with Sammy and Seb scoring for Mellor, but the game had been won by then. Credit to the team for facing up to the physical challenge and for most parts controlling the game. Well done to Ed K, who did a great job on his debut in defence, and Ed F who was strong at the back. Henry was fantastic in midfield and Charlie, again, the stand out star despite getting a nasty slash at the end of the game. Mellor didn’t let the aggression get to them and without two of their best players showed who were the better team.
