On to the second game against the hosts, back to the normal formation. Mellor started well again, with Cam teeing up Leo for his first of the day, before Josh set up Noah to score his first of the season. Solo goal from Cam then Sammy to Miles to score made it four in quick time. Dyl then decided to get into the action with some style, scoring three consecutive goals - and please bear in mind he’s playing up to U12s - before a Josh solo effort, using his pace, meant Mellor had scored eight in the half. Cheadle Hulme pulled one back but Mellor were dominating the game.
Second half switch again, this time defence into attack and vice versa game the defenders an opportunity to steal the glory and show the attackers how to play the game, leaving them to the grunt work. And to be fair credit is deserved to both sets of players, with another six scored in the second half and only one conceded. The half kicked off with the rarest of sights - a lesser spotted Ollie goal, having been fed nicely from Henry, before Mellor’s manager nearly fainted at an even rarer sight, Ollie getting another ! It was a good job the keeper saved his third shot, otherwise smelling salts would have been required...
Anyhow, Ollie fed Dyl for his fourth of the game, then a Henry solo goal before Cam got two more and one from Seb made it 15 - 2 at full time.
Although being pitted against two teams that are clearly building, the Mellor boys had played some nice lacrosse but nevertheless kept going. Coach Sim proved an able stand in and it was interesting to see players in different positions to the norm.
A nice shiny new clubhouse with sausage barms and cake afterwards were also well received, thanks to CH for hosting. Happily, there was no repeat of last year’s rodent incident, when UB40s classic 1980s hit there’s a rat in my changing room came to mind...
