With Sheffield and Liverpool struggling for numbers they combined to play a triangular against Mellor and Cheadle Hulme, at Cheadle Hulme’s ground. It’ll be interesting to see where Sheffpool hold their future training sessions !
Having watched Cheadle Hulme draw 8 all vs Sheffpool, it was Mellor’s turn, first vs the newly combined team. With John away with the u14s it fell to Mellor lacrosse leg-end (?) Sim to take charge of the team. It’s fair to say the opposition were quaking with fear, as, perhaps more concerningly, so were our boys!
Mellor started with their usual formation, Miles on face off, scoring directly with a nice pick up and run straight at the keeper. He’s certainly becoming an expert at this crucial part of the game. Mellor doubled the lead with a nice pass from Charlie to Josh to score. Sheffpool pulled one back quickly as the Mellor middies forgot that defending was part of the game too! (NB were soon reminded by the coach!)
However, again dominating face offs Mellor got two more through Dyl and Seb before Sheffpool got another. Mellor however went on to dominate the first half (30 min games) with goals from Miles, a Charlie solo, then Josh, Sammy and Charlie again to make it 9 2 at half time.
Coach Sim switched it around at half time, defence into midfield and vice versa. Second half started with a Sheffpool goal and was this start of a come back? No...Henry got his first of the season with a lob shot special and then Cam got on the scoresheet with a lovely intelligent low sling shot to make it 11-3 to Mellor. Into the last few minutes with two goals from Charlie, who was on fire, another Miles solo special and one back from Sheffpool to make it 14 - 4 final score.
