Good run out for the Mellor boys

First home game of the season for Mellor U12s versus a combined Brooklands/Rochdale, who unfortunately could only muster 8 players. To ensure a good run out for all, Mellor loaned two of their more experienced players, Charlie and Cam, to the oppo for the first half.

The match started brightly, nice passing from Mellor, finishing in Seb’s first goal of the season. Miles made it 2 - 0 with a solo effort before the turncoats (!), Cam and Charlie, got two back for Brookdale. Miles put Mellor in the lead again but Brookdale hit back, stunning Mellor with two quick goals, before Miles equalised with one of his specials from face off. Goals from Sammy and Leo put Mellor 6 4 up after Q1.

Cam and Charlie however were relishing playing for the oppo, and the Mellor defence, couldn’t cope, and a further three goals from them put Brookdale back in the lead. Another Miles solo special, then goals from Leo and Sammy put Mellor ahead before two goals from Brookdale made it 9 each at half time.

Charlie and Cam were welcomed back to Mellor colours, with Miles and Ollie swapping to Brookdale, who started the second half well and took the lead again. Jacob equalised for Mellor before Miles got two more for the opposition...he’s good that lad one of the Mellor parents remarked, who is he ? Before being reminded he was one of our own ! Jacob pulled one back but Mellor were losing 12 11 going into q4.

Mellor upped their game in the last quarter with two goals from Charlie, another each from Cam and Leo. Miles got another for the oppo but it was 15 - 13 to Mellor at full time. All in all a good competitive game and run out for all the players, with the Mellor turncoats playing particularly well for Brookdale, clearly relishing playing against team mates and scoring nine of the oppo’s goals !
