Sizing the opposition up from the touchline today, it looked as though it was going to be a tough match. Cheadle clearly had a number of older and bigger players, who were going to give our defenders plenty to cope with physically. The first five minutes got us off to a difficult start, with Cheadle scoring two quick goals before our defence had time to settle. However, 10 minutes in it was clear we were starting to get the measure of Cheadle with good possession play from Mellor and a good stable set up in defence saw us peg back Cheadle's lead to 3-2 by the end of the first quarter with Fin Howie slotting two goals in, both well placed shots beating the keeper easily.

We came out much stronger in the second quarter again with the majority of possession and despite some wayward and hurried passing, kept Cheadle in their own half for much of this quarter and for much of it we looked the stronger team. Eddie Lyles in particular showed great strength and commitment driving twice through the Cheadle defence and scoring two great individual goals. Our ground ball work was much improved, Robbie in particular more often than not out muscling the attackers to come away with the ball. 5-4 to Cheadle at the end of Q2 and we have the upper hand for most of it.

Third quarter again a slight lapse in concentration and Cheadle snuck in with two quick goals and again we came back to dominate possession, good work by Jake Fell running through midfield and further goals by Finn (2) and Noah (1) saw the game out to 11-7 Cheadle.

This was a superb game to watch and was far closer than the score line suggests. Our passing let us down a little today and needs to be sharper, more composed and accurate but overall it was a good performance against a well matched side. Perfect standard to test the boys and help them develop their game across the pitch.

Man of the match goes to Finn for four goal tally and a great all round performance and a special mention for Eddie for two successful drives to goal.
