The first match of 2017 saw a damp and foggy journey to Altrincham and the mist was still hanging low as the face off approached.
With some key players again unavailable due to U14 call ups Rick and John did well to get the boys warmed up for the new year on a sticky pitch.
A great start saw Mellor take an early lead through goals from the usual suspects - Jamie, Josh and George before Timperley replied.
Although Mellor always maintained their lead there were moments when a spirited and well organised Timperley side threatened their dominance.
However sterling work in goal by Ned with 6 good saves and Luke, Toby and Robbie in defence prevented Timperley from staging a fight back.

Great bacon butties kept a pensive crowd at bay during the half time break with Mellor comfortably ahead.
The game ebbed and flowed with good runs by Will and Finn helping to maintain the pressure and enable a remarkable 9 assists from George who also scored 3 goals.
Timperley’s No. 36 and 59 battled hard but good play by James, Ellis, Miles and Eddie keeping the passes flowing through the midfield ensured Mellor maintained their lead.
With his Grandma (& mum) watching Fredrick scored his 2nd goal of the season with a great strike from the left ably assisted by Jamie, Betty the dog watched on impassively as the away crowd celebrated knowing that victory was now assured.
More goals from Jamie, George and Josh left Mellor with a well-earned 14 to 8 victory thus continuing their winning run and assault on the league title.

The gracious hosts provided a fantastic fry up after the match which was much appreciated by the players.

Next up - a trip to Didsbury to play the Manchester Waconians
