Having won this for the first time last year we arrived at Timperley full of expectation in this 10 team tournament. A kind draw saw us face Poynton B, Liverpool, Cheadle Hulme and Rochdale with the top 4 teams entering the semi-final draw
This is a frantic format of the game and a huge thanks to Andy Hussey for coaching the boys to victory today.
A strong 10 – 2 win against Poynton B was followed by an 8 – nil win against Liverpool. In game 3, up against a well organised Cheadle Hulme team we stuttered but came away 2 – 0 victory before beating a resilient Rochdale team.8 – 3 – the semi-finals beckoned
Poynton A drew Cheadle whilst we drew Norbury and, for the first time, we looked vulnerable finishing the first half 2 – 1 down, Worse was to come as we slid further behind before an incredible comeback with 6 goals for no reply to win 7 – 3
Looking strong all day Poynton A looked to be a hard win for us against a team full of talent with many players already selected for Stockport Metros. Despite tit for tat goals taking the game to 2 – 2 we then pulled away with the best lacrosse that we’d played all day as we fired a further 8 for no reply to leave Timperley victorious
Played 6 – won 6 – Scored 45 – conceded 10. Scorers – Sam (19), George (13), Tom (9), Eddie (3), Joey (1) – Saves – Ned – too many to count!!!!!!!
Well done to Eddie, Jo, Sam, Tom and Joey and a big thanks to Andy for taking the team for the 2nd year on the run. Unsurprisingly George was nominated MVP by the tournament organiser but, for today, our Man of the Tournament goes to Ned…. Apart from countless saves anyone that saw his saves in the semis and finals will know why! ( He'll be dining out on the tip over the bar for years!!!). Its a tough place to play on any day but even harder in 10 minutes games on Astroturf - great stuff Ned but well done to all 7 of you!
