A really good win for the boys as they bounced back from their league defeat to Norbury. Against a disciplined and organised Stockport team the boys soon silenced them with a strong first quarter. Two identical goals by Sam assisted by Jamie were followed by the first of many for Tom and great solo goal for. George – 1st Quarter - 4 Nil
With our defence really working well with both Joey and Joe playing with more aggression than in recent weeks we were able to get forward much quicker. Some tactical switches allowed us to rotate Eddie and Tom in attack, Ollie Plant looked more assured in midfield and Jack really worked from behind goal which we’ve missed for much of the reason. Quarter 2 saw Sam & Tom notch another. Ned , largely untroubled, could do little about their openers as we reached half time at 6 1
Another long range Stockport goal started the 3rd quarter but Mellor were now in complete control of the game. Prolonged possession by Stockport often led to nothing and we were quick to break with Sam & Tom continuing to add to the score. A lengthy delay due to their goalkeeper being injured slowed the game and despite us never winning face offs Tom added another to reach ¾ time at 9 – 2.
Tom added another and Sam another 2 as we ran our 12 – 3 winners. Today was about getting back on track and the boys most certainly did. Our Year 7’s led by example, defensively we played with some grit and determination and we’re starting to see Ollie Plant & Archie really develop. Ollie Hague too made some good runs and showed good awareness throughout the game. Up front, Tom, Jack and Jamie looked to add real balance as we moved the ball much better down both sides of the pitch – if we can learn to cut we’ll finish the season in style
