Mellor knew this was going to be a tougher match than the first against Rochdale and we started with intent which resulted in an early lead, underpinned by confident playmaking and good domination of the midfield. We were 4-0 up at half time after some great goals and solid performances in defence from Joey and Alex led by Joe Kyn and a couple of good saves from Ned. We carried on the solid work in the second half, with great fighting for the ball and our determination was clearly evident. Timperley didn’t really look like they would come back too strong and we scored another 4 in the second half including one from a really sweet assist from new boy Toby Halls to take the final score to 0-8 to us. Ned had more to do in this game but still managed to keep a clean sheet. This was more like the Mellor of last season and it was great to see the new boys Toby, Archie, Jake, Josh and Oliver Plant all getting in on the action and starting to get to grips with this fantastic game. Well done to all the boys – a great result and a confidence boost for the games to come!
Finally, a quick nod to the refs in the second match – our own Fred Kynaston and his old adversary Dave – between them offering up 149 years of experience! Thanks refs.

Comment from Mark Kynaston – “Ollie Hague was great in both games in midfield and scored some great goals especially in game 2. He is my choice for MVP against Timperley. Special mention to all of the new players who were, without exception, fantastic for such inexperienced players. It was their quality ad determination that allowed us to play such a good team game and win these games with ease”
