Our second game of the season saw us face Poynton A. Make no mistake, on another day this would have been a good win from them but, with players away and only 10 players on hand, our boys managed to secure a narrow late win. More accurate shooting from Poynton would have seen a different result.
Mellor eventually scored but a solo goal from Poynton saw them walk through unchallenged for a simple goal. George scored another solo goal and continued to work well with Sam in the middle. Only a good save from Ned on the stroke of half time kept us in the lead at 2 – 1.
In the second half we looked tired and complacent. Tom scored again but an immediate response from Poynton saw us up against the ropes. We’d lost the ability to get the ball from midfield to attack and Ned held firm against wave after wave of Poynton pressure. Despite another brave save Poynton pulled the game level at 3 – 3. With seconds to go Sam took charge to fire us to a 4 – 3 win. On any other day though the result would have been reversed and we’ve a lot to do as the season progresses.
Coaches Man Of The Match – Ned Donovan – their goals were largely unsavable but 3 great stops prevented the game slipping from our control
