Mellor returned to the relatively tropical climate of Cheadle for a repeat of the game from a few weeks earlier. Within a couple of minutes Mellor were 1-0 down after a good Cheadle finish beat Ned in goal, making his full league debut. Mellor didn't let this set back distract them and were level when some great link up play and an assist from Alex led to Kit opening the scoring for Mellor much to the delight of the vocal Mellor following. The boys looked as though they were up for this game and were beginning to string together some very pleasing on the eye passing moves which led to further first quarter goals for Ollie, Josh, Tom and Ben H to lead 5-1.

The second quarter started in the same fashion with Mellor's busy midfield and strong defence, led by Joe K, being more than a match for Cheadle's attack and when Cheadle were able to get their shots on target, Ned was showing great form in goal. Further goals followed including 2 from George, who was as busy as ever in midfield, and 2 from Ben T who was simply too strong for Cheadle as Mellor stretched their lead to 9-1 at half time. In the third quarter Mellor arguably played their best quarter of the season as the passing and movement of the whole team from defence to midfield to attack was almost flawless. It was a quarter when the goals came from great pass and move team play, rather than individual brilliance, with Drew tirelessly working for the team in midfield and setting the team shape which led to goals from Sam (2), Tom (2), Ben T and Ollie as Mellor extended their lead to 15-1.

The last quarter was a bit more stop/start and whilst Mellor were still dominating possession and defending well their last pass in this quarter was letting them down a bit as only one further goal was added from Ben T while Cheadle had the last word with the final shot of the match making it a 16-2 victory. A much improved team performance, especially in the passing and movement from the whole team including newcomers Kieren and Joey, while the defence continues to look very solid and Ned had an excellent first full game. Man of the match went to Ned whilst the team area for improvement is scooping up the ground ball! The standard has been set this week and if Mellor play in the same style and with the same energy they will be hard to beat.
