Mellor hoped this was an easy first draw, and it was. Poynton B tried hard but didn't really get a look in. When they did manage to get the ball to the goal end it was intercepted by Mellor defence who passed it off and Mellor would then go on to score.
The final score was 26 -1. It could have been 27 - 1 if our referee hadn't disallowed his own sons goal, I think he said something about offside but we're not sure! The pitch was difficult to play on as it was so muddy the ball just plopped into the mud and didn't run meaning there was a lot of scrappy play trying to pick the ball up.
Todays match reporter did lose track of goals a little and had to call for second opinions on who had scored what, and when, from a glamorous sideline assistant - Flo, but to summarise what wasn't the most exciting match we've ever watched -4 goals each from Eddie (assist 1) Drew (assist 2) and Sam (assist 6). 3 from Tom (assist 2), 3 Ben (assist 2), 2 George (assist 4) and Rufus. Josh 1 goal (and the one disallowed!) Oliver 1, and very importantly their first match goals Ben H (assist 1) and Christian 1 each. A number of good knockdowns most noticeably from Joe B
Man of the match was very difficult to decide. So I have gone for one of the newer players who I thought tried very hard, was often in a good position - but wasn't always seen, despite being in just the right place to receive the ball - Ben Hodgson. Well done Ben.
