A quick start from Mellor saw Tom picking up a loose ball and shooting home to take the lead. The rest of the first quarter was a bit disjointed from both teams with Mellor being too slow to pass (plus too many wayward ones!) and often ignoring a free man only to then run into traffic and lose possession - no doubt a hangover from the sugar overload from the previous evening! However, following an equaliser from Norbury, Drew restored Mellor's advantage to take a 2-1 quarter lead.
Mellor started the 2nd quarter brighter and their passing was beginning to improve, Sam and Drew were starting to dominate midfield with Rufus showing some nice touches and breaking up a number of Norbury attacks. Norbury were increasingly relying on their number 13, who was strong in midfield and a constant threat to the Mellor defence, which at times looked at bit shaky, but they were generally well organised and when shots did get through on goal, Will was his usual assured self. Some good build up plays led to Mellor extending their lead to take a 5-2 half time advantage with Ben T and Josh providing goals and assists for Drew and Sam.
Mellor started the 3rd quarter quickly and were now playing much better and within a short time had scored 3 quick fire goals to open up what was to become a winning margin and finished the quarter 9-3 ahead. The younger members of the Mellor team were all playing their part and were very quick to the loose ball enabling Mellor to increasingly dominate possession, albeit Norbury may also have been tiring as they had no subs. Further goals followed to give Mellor a 13-5 victory. Overall a good performance against a team with some good players and with a bit more vision and quicker passing into space there is no reason why Mellor cannot extend their winning run if they continue to play with the same commitment. Goals - Drew (6), Sam (4), Tom (2), Ben T (1) Assists - Tom (3), Ben T (3), Josh H (2), Sam (2), Drew (1).
