Convincing win by our U12's to put them back on track in the league

The game started with some early pressure from Stockport but an early break by Josh saw Tom set us off with an early lead. With missed shots coming in Mellor took control with the young midfield particularly impressing. A quick timeout by Stockport was called but the restart continued in the same vein a fine save from a Drew Bickerton shot. A big improvement from last week but the boys were still missing groundballs until a mazy run from Drew set up Sam for one of his first goals on the game. Q1 – 4 – Nil to Mellor

Will was called into action early in Q2 as we slipped into some sloppy play until a fine solo effort from Sam Griffiths. Further shots were saved by the Stockport keeper, his helmet and his posts as Mellor maintained pressure. The quarter ended with a great fake and shot from Drew to give us a 6 Nil lead at half time.

An early Stockport goal saw us break through George Shonfeld and another of Drew’s runs led to an easy finish for Sam. Rufus, now renouned for his pitch length runs broke down Stockport to take a great solo goal and Jamie Mochan and Ben Tipping continued to grind down their defence in front of our much more disciplined defence. Q3 – 10 – 1 to Mellor

A quick tactical change in Q4 saw Rufus move into midfield with an immediate goal although Will Macdonald had to pull off a tricky bouncing save to straight from the restart. Christian Simpson Pink showed good tenacity before Ben Tipping hit the post quickly followed by the same from Sam as Mellor really stamped their authority on the game. Tom Brady set off on another of his superb runs to set up Sam who was denied by the keeper until a sucker punch goal from a slick Stockport move. Final score Mellor 13 – Stockport 2

Man Of The Match – in a game dominated by attacks and goals this week’s man of the match is Josh Haining – did all of the basics well, played with the aggression that we know he has and was the start of many of our goals.

Goals – Tom Brady (1), Ollie Hague (1), Eddie Jenkins(2), Rufus Lancaster (2), Drew Bickerton(2), George Shonfeld (2) and Sam Griffiths (3)

Assists – Tom Brady (2), Rufus Lancaster (2), Drew Bickerton (3), George Shonfeld (2), Sam Griffiths (2) and Jamie Mochan (2)
