A big step up from a shaky first weekend as the boys settle in

First up under sunny skies was Heaton Mersey. Mellor lost the toss; was this an omen for the rest of the match?
Any silly thoughts around this were soon put to bed as Mellor took control from the off. Within the first few minutes they were dominating and from a Heaton Mersey attack, Josh Haining picked up the ball and ran the length to score (1-0 Mellor). This woke Heaton Mersey up and from the face off they attacked, making sure that Will Mac was on his toes. He was up to the job with a fine save.
Heaton Mersey were trying to impress on the game but the defence stood tall. With Heaton Mersey on the attack again, Sam made a lovely interception and with a pass to Drew, there was only one place the ball was ending up (2-0 Mellor). Mellor then took control of the first half with Ben, the main catalyst who dominated midfield. Ben had 3 shots saved and Josh was unlucky with a mazy run to be called back for off-side. It was now one-way traffic though, and a lovely move that started with Drew and involved George and Sam was finished well by Ollie Hague (3-0 Mellor). Sam and Drew were starting to pull the strings for Mellor in attack and just before half time Drew fed Eddie whose shot was parried and trickled over the line (4-0 Mellor at half time).
The second half saw the introduction of Ned in goal and straight away he was under pressure from Heaton Mersey who scored in their first attack (4-1 Mellor). This fired the Mellor boys up and they went up the other end and from an Eddie Jenkins shot, Sam picked up the ball and slotted it home with a tidy finish (5-1 Mellor). Joey Bissell wanted some of the action and was unlucky with a following shot saved as too was Ben Tipping with a long-range effort; the Heaton Mersey goalkeeper was having a blinder and keeping the score in single figures.
A rare foray into Mellor’s half saw Ned under pressure but he saved well. Then threw to Josh in defence and quickly into attack via Alex, Jamie, Joey and finally Sam who hit the post! However, Sam was most alert and picked it up to pass to Drew to shoot (6-1 Mellor). On the next attack Drew fed Eddie for his second and Mellor’s seventh (7-1 Mellor). It was all Mellor now. Christian Pink had a lovely pick up in defence and went on a run who passed to Sam and then Drew who was flattened. From the foul George took it forward and passed to Ollie who was taken out by the oncoming goalkeeper; Drew picked it up for a long range effort only for it to be saved again!
In the final minutes, George scored with a long-range effort. With the game sewn up, Mellor took their foot off the gas and Heaton Mersey scored to make it 8-2. In the final seconds Heaton Mersey were pushing for a third but Ned made his third important save of the game.
