The second match against Cheadle Hulme started without barely a breather. Sadly, there isn’t much good news to report from hereon in. We went deeper into unchartered territory as we went 0-1 down, 0-2 down, 0-3 down, 0-4 down and finally 0-6 down at half time. What was going on? - we haven’t been here before, we don’t know what a league game defeat looks like and we seemed totally out of sorts. Sadly, to add insult to injury, we lost Eddie to a serious knock to his finger which meant he was unable to return and left us weak up-front. At 0-6 down, we were offered the option of a free clear but Mark Kyn vehemently refused it and we managed to claw back some dignity scoring 3 goals in the second half. However, Cheadle Hulme scored another 2 to make it 3-8 at the final whistle. All in all, a performance not to be repeated!
Notable moments –
Ned Donovan’s first opportunity to put in a full performance across both matches showed some really positive signs for the future with a couple of good saves in the first game and four in the second.
Ben Hodgson showed some promise after only recently joining the team and he should be pleased with his efforts today.
My man of the match goes to Drew for his performance over both games. He demonstrated the stuff we have come to expect from Mellor – solid, reliable, commitment and goal scoring ability when under pressure. Well done Drew!
