In Mellor’s second match the skies had darkened and the rain started but this didn’t dampen Mellor’s spirits. Buoyed with confidence from the first, they made a good start with a lot of lovely passing moves. Cheadle were no push overs and their number 7 was stamping his mark on the game and was denied by Ned with one shot. Mellor’s number 7 (Drew) then took the game to Cheadle and fed George who shot wide. Drew then had a go himself but was denied by their goalkeeper but Drew turned provider for Sam to settle the nerves and put Mellor up (1-0 Mellor).
It was all Mellor now and Ben put a shot wide following nice work from Jack Royle on the left. Sam then passed to Ben in midfield who unleashed a big shot that was deflected past the goalkeeper (2-0 Mellor). Christian followed this up with another attack but was taken out by Cheadle’s number 7; ouch! Joe Kynaston stepped in to collect the ball who passed to Ollie and then George, who made it 3-0 to Mellor. Mellor were playing some lovely lax and a move that involved Josh, Joey, Sam and then Ben really deserved a goal but the ball hit the post! Cheadle then went on the offensive and Cheadle’s main man (number 7) went up the other end to make it 3-1 on the stroke of half time.
The second half saw Will Mcdonald join the action but not in his usual goalkeeping position, but in attack. It was one way traffic in the second half with Drew, Eddie and George all going close. Sam then looped a big pass to Drew who finished it nicely (4-1 Mellor). Ben then picked up the ball from the resulting face off and ran all the way to finish and make it Mellor 5, Cheadle 1. Cheadle did have a few following attacks and one such attack led to an unfortunate own goal by Josh Haining (5-2 Mellor).
This gave Cheadle hope and with them putting some pressure on Mellor but Will Mcdonald put a stop to that. He intercepted a Cheadle pass just inside the Cheadle half and went past a couple of Cheadle defenders and saw the goalkeeper off his line – what a lobbed goal! (6-2 Mellor).
Mellor were back in the ascendency and Ollie Hague was unlucky to not make it 7 after a lovely interception meant he was through on goal but taken out at the last minute by a cynical foul. Cheadle then took the game back up the other end of the pitch and drew a fine save out of Ned. Ned passed to Rufus who ran the length of the pitch to finish off the match and make it Mellor 7, Cheadle 2.
